Had enough Star Fabric left for 4 matching napkins.

Sewing Project: Window Seat Cushion

Well I have been working on the house and my Craft/Sewing/Office......Time for a project. Window Seat Cushion-No Pattern used.

First Made my own cording/piping.

Stitch the cording/piping to the cushion cover.

Now time to add the zipper.

Here it is all done....

I do think it looks pretty good! I love it.

Centerpiece Instructions

I have had many requests for my instructions on some centerpieces I had made so I am going to try to post some here. I hope they are understandable. This is from the centerpiece I made for Hubbys 50th Birthday party but can be converted to any occasion.

First decide on your container.  I chose SILVER planters and used Florist FOAM inside aroung a balloon weight which was black and silver fringy it gave fullness to the bottom and covered the FOAM well.  I played with it forming it with my hands so they were not just straight up.

THe Cricut CARTRIDGE USED MOSTLY WAS CELEBRATIONS (there are so many now use what you like). Words like "Its a Party" was available on cartridges and required no welding.  just cut in black white or silver and cut the LAYER in one of the other colors and adhesive or glue together.  Do this for all your designs.  Use your imagination.  I also used a white or silver metalic pen to add accents (here and there if you want).

I mounted them to SKEWERS (for shish kabobs) that I spray painted black or you can use silver as well. Hot glue works well for this.  When I arrange I turn my centerpiece to put some in on both side which hides the glue on the other pieces.  I put ribbon that I curled from most of the sticks (bottom of your Die cut)tie it on.  (Adds fullness)

You can also add Flowers silk in the color you choose like black or white (I added flowers to my daughters centerpieces for her graduation party using BLUE WHITE and SILVER. I limited flowers and did not use them on my Husbands centerpieces but you can if you like. 

Also you can add sparkly pipe cleaners or various things you see you like.

I then bought inflated balloons and tied to my center balloon weight when it was time for the party.  PLEASE MAKE IN ADVANCE as you will need the time --but keep them out of sight for a great surprise.

ALso try making candy bar wrappers (buy the box of candy bars at costco or sams) and you have one for every one that comes.  Put his picture on it.  I did and everyone loved it.

Room Makeover Update

Here is the closet he redid. We bought Cabinets from IKEA. If I should ever want to I can add doors or drawers but for now just wanted shelves. Still more organizing to do. Scrapbooking and Sewing items need to have their own areas assigned.

This is an L shaped desk my hubby picked up for me to use for now...$25 thank you Craigslist. My new chair came from IKEA. Still putting things in their place. Going to mount a lift on the desk for the tv. My daughter left the tv for me to use in my room it has a dvd player so I can watch my craft cricut videos at my leisure.

Here is the first two cabinets and counter top. I will be adding another cabinet in the center with drawers. The shelves will have doors on them and I will be adding and end open shelf. Then we will add wall cabinets above the counter replacing the shelf.

Still a work in progress but I am loving it. I will be adding some vinyl words and images to my wall when the dust settles and I decide on what I want. I think the two tone color walls came out very well.

Sorry about the mess but wanted to post our progress. Please feel free to post a comment or suggestion.

Painting has started.

Cd or DVD Box Project for Storage Solutions

First find you a DVD box (that is what I used and almost everyone was out of them) Found at Joanns for $2.98.

Purple not my color and because some of the box shows I painted/Primed the box (this will also help your box if paper--so that it should not pucker or peel from the glue.

The cut s needed are: 10-1/2 x 5-1/2 (for the Top)

5-3/4x8 for the Bottom

5-1/4x8 for the sides

5-1/4x5-3/4 for the back & front

Your measurements for your box may very check it before cutting.

I started adhering my bottom first. I used the cheetah or my 714 tape runner to adhere the paper to the box entirely.

Now to adhere my sides.

I chose my paper from the DCWV Stack books. Le Creme. The paper has flocking on it (a little more difficult to work with the glue. Also you will notice I like more of a match set . Although you can select # different colors for top, sides, and front/back and it look awesome. I like the black creme look.

Now the back side goes on. So far so good.

Here is a view of my progress with the lids also done. I am doing two for my upcoming new Craft/Scrapbook Room.

Note when I cut my front piece I measured and made a template from the TAB on the front of my box. Some boxes do not have them and you can buy them and put on afterwards. Some are removable others like mine you measure and try it before adhering to the box.

Now brush on the mod podge for a complete seal. I did a couple sides at a time to allow drying for turning.

All Done--Don't they look nice. I will use cream inserts in my metal tabs on front for labeling them.

Next week we will do the envelopes for our disks from the WIld Card Cartridge. Thank you to Custom Crops for this great Idea.

Home Construction Update

Good morning everyone. Just thought I would share an update to our ongoing home construction. We finally decided to tackle some home improvement issues after many years of debating to move. We decided to stay put at least until retirement and tackle things in the house. I am starting with the (small) living room. (space is our issue that is why we had been debating a move). We will work our way through laundry room, kitchen and CRAFT ROOM. Yes it will be last but the best things are worth waiting for.
So here are a couple pictures of the living room 16x12 (14 maybe) We finally had the ceiling work done and textured, Crown and base molding, painted all the walls (after taking down paneling, re- dry walling and sanding etc) 1 accent wall (may still need to go darker there) still need to replace trim and inside doors. But at last the PERGO floor went in.

From here the Laundry room to build custom shelves for pantry and storing crock pots etc. I will then have a place to empty my kitchen (no basement) I will be removing my Island--hubby said I may want to keep it for my Craft room as it is huge and will hold lots of stuff not to mention a nice work top (but I am not sure if that is what I want yet --so take it to the garage for now. I was all set for tile in the kitchen but a suggestion was made to carry the PERGO on into the kitchen it would open up the room giving and illuision of more room.??? HMMM what do you think PERGO or Tile for the kitchen?

This is ongoing as we are not financing but paycheck by paychecking it ourselves with work being done with help of a friend from church. So it will take some time but I will post updated pictures as we go.

Let me add we finally also have insulation in the attic again. Finally it is warm. just in time for Michigan Winter.

The yellow in the hall they replaced with the same paint as they put in the living room. (note: I had just painted the hall that color in August and although at first was not loving it ---I do miss the yellow in the hall so do the kids-not sure about the guys decision to get rid of it.) Well time go tear up some things in the laundry room. I'll keep you posted.

Well I have been busy this week. Making more Halloween cards and treats. (Bag toppers etc.)
Also have done about 40 Christmas cards. (I absolutely love my new Martha Stewart Punch (Branch))
I used it to make wreaths and deer antlers. Will post pics later.
Some of my family from Tennessee was up this week visiting and although a short visit I loved spending time with them. I wish I could move to Tennessee. (Michigan is way too cold-most of the time.)
Also yesterday being Sweetest Day my hubby Took me to breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then we drove up the waters edge to alot of the beach/harbor towns like Lexington, Harbor Beach, Port Sanilac, Port Austin and Caseville. We ate lunch at the Stone Lodge and Dinner at Frankenmuth (Zehnders) it was a good day. We stopped at a couple scrapbook tores and he bought me several (12) new cuddle bug folders and some miscellaneous items as well. We took beautiful fall pictures as we drove and stopped enjoying our day--I will post a picture later.

Today we spent time at cider mills and then tonight just got back from a Haunted Hayride. What a nice weekend. More posting to come this week.

Cuttle bug Challenge #49 50th Birthday

Here is my mini album for the Cuttle bug challenge.
My theme was 50th Birthday.
I wanted to follow the same look as the cards that I embossed aluminum cans.
So for my book I used aluminum foil in my cuttle bug with the matching embossing folder for Happy Birthday. I think it gave it a very sharp look. Everyone loves it and I hope you like it too.
I also used my BIA (I admit I am BIA challenged because can not for the life figure out the book of instructions to get my punches centered. This time I got lucky, and it did line up.

Okay I will give you a peak inside but this only a few of the pages there are several more and still more to add--when I add my pictures I am sure I will add a few things. I am using this challenge to motivate me to get my pictures scrapped from hubby's 50th party we held last year. Pictures do not do it justice--it is very shiny and blingy.

Weekend Marathon Crafting

Great weekend! Friday night girls night at my house.
Ordered BLT Pizza's for Dinner and just hung out working on our own projects.
Barb did some scrap pages. Ni spent time playing with her cricut (Create) trying to learn a little more
about her new toy. I worked on my cuttlebug challenge entries. We worked until 3:30 in the morning and then Saturday at 2:00 went to archivers to shop for 3 hours (me and Ni) then on to a couple more then dinner and came back and worked on Halloween cards and halloween cans. We worked all night until Sunday morning at 10:am then went to see a movie and then to the cider mill with a stop at Michaels.
Very productive weekend and FUN. Although I was dragging my behind come Monday.
I will post pictures of the quick cards I made for Halloween in a couple days. (and paint cans).

Update on Blog

Well, here I am just waiting to go off to work again. Reading all the blogs trying to stay informed so I do not miss anything "especially a chance to win a gypsy". I have been playing with my cricut and some in the trial DS. But last night I realized someone had borrowed my USB cord -so I could not connect my laptop to the cricut to cut the files I had designed. If it does not find its way home today I will have to run out and buy another one. Stay tuned to see what happens. I have heard the disks that are included in the infomercial contain lots of projects from the infomercial and another disk of a project each month--I have been trying to locate them---if you know how to get them please comment or email me. I have also been doing a little experimenting with video and hopefully will be able to get my tutorials posting soon. I am also working on scanning my card/layout/project into photobucket to get the gallery going. It all takes time. Well off to work I will check in later. I see Christina is a follower welcome Christina you are the first (I hope the first of many) Thank you for your wonderful email.

1. If you could escape to anywhere in the world where would it be?

I am torn between Italy, Paris or London.

2. What song do you play when you are by yourself in the car?

ACDC (ALL of their songs-Back in Black, Shook me all night long, Hells Bells etc.....)

3. If you had a night to yourself, and money was no object, what would you do?

Well laying on a beach on an island is out because the word was "NIGHT"--so what I love to do when I have "alone" time is Scrapbook and sew. And with money no object I would get anything and everything I wanted and have an awesome scrapbook and sewing room set up to do just that. I would have Dinner catered in no pizza this time. (Although I do love Pizza) I would do my favorite things all night long. (I would be stocked with Provo craft products)

4. What is your guilty pleasure? It is a toss up Smores, Raisinets, and Peanut M&M's. I love them but they are oh so bad for me SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR. But I am more of a salty girl. (I should include Cheezits) Always around when scrapbooking.

5. What is the farthest place you have traveled away from your home? Easy because I have not been very many places but Europe Paris, France, London, Nice, and Monaco. (High School French Class Trip with Son)

6. Last book that you couldn't put down? Julie & Julia and The Shack (They were both good) I love cooking so the movie Julie and Julia sent me right out to buy the book and I read it like lightening. Loved it.

7. When you want to escape into another time, what movie do you watch? Somewhere in time with Christopher Reeves or Officer and a Gentleman with Richard Greer

8. What is your favorite local escape? MJR theater to watch movies in second place is.... (Starbucks and Barns & Noble) I would love to go to a spa for the day with everything but I do not do that because I could not afford that. but a girl can dream.

9. How do you escape on a budget? (I escape locked in my scrapbooking/sewing room-doing what I love) or Calgon take me away-----

Here are some sets I made. The Black and White with silver accents I made for my son going back to college for his organizing his bills and important papers, statements etc. Also a matching notepad to write down important phone conversations and to record his transactions. I also made a matching pen to keep with it (that way you will always have a pen when you need one).

Here is a little set I made for a friend. It has monthly inserts you can organize cards by month for important events like anniversary or birthday. Or keep monthly coupons or receipts.

I made this box to help organize us somewhat. I made a matching notebook and pen too.

The week is starting off good. Thank you foodie giveawy! I love your site.

Yesterday was the "18th Birthday Party" for my daughter and it was nice. The weather held up --but not really warm enough for swimming. But we had good food and fun. I also had everyone make a scrapbook page for her and I took pictures to add later. I will share it once the pictures are all printed and placed on. I used 81/2 x 11 which could be adhered to a 12x12 later. Even all the NON scrapbookers and there were many did it and had a good time (I may have even converted a couple out of the NON category". We also later got out the SingStar and made fools out of ourselves but it was fun.

Well it is time to wake up the house and start our day I will check in later. I have been spending time on the cuttle bug challenege, obsessed scrapbooking, christmas, and pink stamper sites/blogs awesome talented ladies. Learning alot more about my cricut and expression etc. Nice people, and fun creative informative sites. You should check them out. Lots of Cricut information.

I found a blog that is all inspiring. It is cuttlebug challenge. Currently they are running this challenge to make any shape cards using or not using the cuttlebug. Talk about timing I just finished cards that I made for my daughter's 18th birthday party. They are suppose to look like a swimming pool and I also used green for the background hoping it would look like the lawn. (Just in case you have no idea what it is suppose to be)LOL It is for a pool party/backyard BBQ. We decided we did not want to go full out LUAU but did a Tropical BBQ you know everything summer, pool, sand, water balloons, water guns, silly string, tropical flowers HOT colors, flip flops beach towels, food will all be fruity or BBQ. (except for hot dogs)

The cards turned out ok for doing them at the last minute and using scraps to make the cards to use up things we have. We decided we need to "make the most" of what we have. All of them were a little different in color etc. The photos are not very good quality they look much better than the picture shows. I used vellum for a water look with a cricut cut out layered between with a colored strip of vellum that says "Let's make a splash As we celebrate" Not my best but definitely fun to make. and a very different "shape" I hope you enjoy and come back soon for more. Well here we are another Friday gotta love them. The best day in my week-the last work day of the week. TGIF Today I am going to try to catch up on some embroidery after I run some errands with my daughter and get invitations mailed for her 18th birthday party. (next Saturday) Monday I have a cropping date with a friend so I will save my scrapbooking for Monday night.

This weekend I know I should clean out that garage and have that garage sale before it gets too late to have one. But feeling rather lazy maybe that is because you stayed up to 3 am working on those invitations and you got up for work at 5:30 --2-1/2 hours sleep maybe I need more; but really on Friday.....Well off to run those errands and one of them is a stop at Michaels.

Jewelry in the Making

Just a quick note I was on my way to the beach the other day and stopped in at Mary Maxim's. I have never made jewelry but seen a stone and thought of my daughter who is turning 18 and loves hot pink and black. So I picked some things up and made her these two items. Just a quick little thing but she really liked them alot.

A Year of Embroidery

Well here I am again late at night amd can't sleep - cleaning my craft room and now blogging and internet surfing. Here is my next project. Pattern is a Smith Street Design.

This one will take me a year to complete. (decided to take my time) Actually I will be doing two of them in different color schemes at once for gifts. I will work on a different flower every month; and also the coordinating cuts and borders that I will need for each section.

Mastering the Art of French Cooking

With the release of Julia and Julia (a must see movie for all); a new wave of enthusiast for her cookbooks emerge. I myself do not own one but would really like one. Actually I want both volumes. I want to try several recipes, crepes', poached eggs, quiche and the famous Beef Bourligoume. So many recipes and so little time.

I have just finished some cake decorating classes -so perfect timing to attempt something new.

I spent today on the beach reading the book Julie & Julia. It is a wonderful book. The movie left me wanting more.

Quilting Project Finished

Here is a Lap quilt I just finished. It is a log cabin design inspired by Quilt in a Day, Eleanor Burns. It was for my Rocking Chair but my son loved it and confiscated it for himself. (He is 20 by the way) I was just thrilled that he wanted it and made so much over it.

The binding gave me a bit of trouble but that is what I get for doing a double sided binding. I did free motion the brown & blue Hydrangea print right next to the binding, while everything else was mostly stitch in the ditch/quilting. I think it turned out well.

Sewing Project-Embroidery Unit Tote Bag/Storage

Here is the bag I created to hold my embroidery unit arm. This way I can take it with me and it has a place of it's own. I bag or carrier did not come with mine when I purchased it so I had to create my own. I did not use a pattern. So please excuse any imperfections-as it was mostly done for convenience and function. But I do believe it turned out quite nicely.

Here is an old style Apron I made for one of my sisters. I did not use a pattern to make this Retro looking Apron.
I think it would be perfect for making something out of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" by Julia Child. (Simone Beck, and L Bertholle)

Welcome to my Blog!

Well back to work today after the winter break. Today I think I will experiment some more with Embroidery on my new machine-the Platinum 955e Viking. I have been surfing the web trying to find I Love to Sew With My Feet, a book I would love to have.

Tonight I am spending time with my daughter searching the web and filing for scholarships/financial aid to help her pay for Cosmetology education. Anybody who knows of specific aid for cosmetology please let me know.

Also working on this new blog---hope you can be patient with me this blogging is a whole new world for me. I am looking forward to sharing my ideas and creative work with everyone. My current #1 passion is (besides my wonderful family) Sewing/Embroidery with my Platinum 955e but Scrapbooking has always been a strong presence in my everyday life. Now my Cricut expression makes it so much easier and has opened up a great deal of possibilities.
